Aftercare Guide for Laser Hair Removal

Over the last decade, laser hair removal has become the go-to option for removing unwanted hair worldwide.

Before having any medical or aesthetic treatment, it’s important to be aware of what is required post-treatment in the form of aftercare. Being aware of the do’s and don’ts following your treatment will help you to give yourself the best chance at fulfilling your desired results while also avoiding any complications.

Our comprehensive aftercare guide for Laser Hair Removal will provide everything you need to know to maximise the effectiveness and prevent any issues that may impact your results. If you do have any concerns or would like to speak to a skin specialist directly, contact our friendly team in Essex.

Protect your skin from the Sun

Firstly, you need to ensure that you protect your recently-treated skin from being exposed to the sun for a prolonged period of time. We recommend you protect your skin and avoid spending too long in the sun for the first two weeks following your treatment. If you have a beach holiday planned, please have your treatment at least two weeks in advance.

If you need to be outside, please be sure to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF30 or higher that completely covers the treated area. This should also be paired with protective and loose-fitting clothing such as a cap, long-sleeved shirt or covering, and light trousers. During the summer, linen clothing will do the job while keeping you cool.

Avoid excessively hot environments and sweating

As well as sun exposure, please avoid other hot environments such as steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, and even excessively hot showers for the first 48 hours after treatment. Doing so can worsen your side effects and delay your overall recovery time.

You should also avoid any activities that can cause excessive sweating such as exercise, sports, or other activity that is likely to raise your blood pressure and cause sweating. This should be avoided for the first 48 hours following laser hair removal so please ensure that you do not have anything too strenuous planned for the days following treatment.

Gently cleanse your skin after laser hair removal

After your treatment, it is still necessary to clean the treated area. We recommend a gentle cleanse with a mild, non-fragranced soap or cleanser. Avoid harsh or chemical-heavy exfoliants, and be sure to clean the treated area very gently for the first week following treatment.

When drying the treated area, softly pat the area dry with a clean towel, rather than rubbing, to ovoid irritating any potential side effects.

Moisturise the treated area daily

Moisturising is something we recommend to all of our clients regardless of treatment or not. This is to keep skin hydrated, healthy and younger-looking. Following a laser hair removal treatment we recommend keeping the treated area hydrated with a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic moisturiser. This is to avoid dryness which can irritate side effects.

Please apply the moisturiser twice daily, especially after cleaning the treated area. This could be after your morning shower and again in the evening when you have a spare minute or two.

Avoid tight clothing and opt for looser shirts & trousers

Aside from refraining from certain strenuous activities, we also recommend against tight-fitting clothing such as gym gear, leggings, tight jeans or other restrictive clothing. Anything that may rub up against the treated area and irritate the skin should be avoided.

Especially in the summer, you need something that can protect you from the sun but also isn’t going to irritate your skin. Long flowing summer dresses for women or linen shirts and trousers for men are recommended as you can keep cool, stay protected and still be stylish.

Be aware of your side effects

Following most aesthetic treatments, including laser hair removal, you should expect some side effects to occur. Side effects and their severity vary from person to person, but it is important to be aware of them nonetheless.

Following a Soprano Titanium laser hair removal treatment, patients may experience light skin sensitivity akin to sunburn and some redness. The good news is that this usually clears up in 1 to 3 days and will only occur in the area of skin that was treated.

Book follow-up appointments and listen to your practitioners’ advice

Booking follow-up appointments in advance will help you to stay on track with your treatment results and allow your practitioner to check in at the right times. Without booking follow-ups you may risk your practitioner being fully booked and unable to see you for several weeks.

At your follow-up appointments, your practitioner can monitor your progress, address any concerns or answer any questions.

Book a Laser Hair Removal treatment with an aesthetic treatment specialist in Essex

Overall, laser hair removal is a no-brainer for those looking for the best hair removal results. After one treatment, you will truly feel the difference and understand that traditional methods can’t provide.

We hope the information above helped you to understand what is required following your laser hair removal treatment to ensure the best results possible. If you still have questions about this treatment or any other, please get in touch with our friendly team.
