So you’ve had a HIFU Skin Tightening treatment, but now what? What can ensure that results are protected and maximised once you leave the clinic?
This is where accurate and reliable aftercare is essential to achieving your desired results without issues. Awareness of the dos and don’ts following your treatment will help you give yourself the best chance at fulfilling your desired results while avoiding complications.
As you may know, HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) skin tightening is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses highly focused ultrasound energy to target and stimulate the body’s natural collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin. It is a popular treatment for improving skin laxity, tightening loose or sagging skin, and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. You can find more information in our Complete Guide to HIFU Skin Tightening.
Our comprehensive aftercare guide for HIFU Skin Tightening will provide everything you need to know to maximise the effectiveness and prevent any issues that may impact your results. If you have any concerns or want to speak to a skin specialist directly, contact our friendly team in Essex.
Gently cleanse the treated skin
Although we advise against touching or picking at the treated skin, it is still necessary to clean the area gently after your treatment. We recommend a gentle cleanse with a mild, non-fragranced soap or cleanser. Avoid harsh or chemical-heavy exfoliants, and clean the treated area very gently for the first week following treatment.
When drying the treated area, softly pat the area dry with a clean towel, rather than rubbing, to avoid irritating any potential side effects.
Keep the treated area moisturised
Applying moisturiser is recommended to all our patients, regardless of treatment. It can do wonders for your results to keep skin hydrated, healthy and younger-looking. Following a HIFU Skin Tightening treatment, we recommend keeping the treated area hydrated and moisturised with a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic moisturiser. This is to avoid dryness that can irritate side effects, making them last longer than usual.
We recommend applying moisturiser to the treated area twice daily, especially after cleaning the treated area. This could be after your morning shower and again in the evening when you have a spare minute.
Avoid applying irritants or makeup to your skin
If you usually have a skincare routine that involves harsh chemicals, exfoliants, or abrasive scrubs on your skin, we advise pausing this for at least one week post-treatment. These products can cause irritation and disrupt your healing process significantly.
We also request that you refrain from applying makeup on the treated area for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Makeup can clog pores and potentially introduce bacteria to the skin. If you are planning on wearing makeup for a particular event, please make sure that your treatment is booked at least 48 hours away from your social engagement.
Drink plenty of water and eat a healthy diet
Our skin looks its best and most youthful when our bodies are full of nutrients, minerals and hydration. Eating a healthy balanced diet and keeping hydrated with water can be one of the best ways to ensure that the results you desire are achieved.
Not only will this enhance your results, it can also speed up the recovery process, so keeping a healthy diet and drinking lots of water can be a win-win following treatment.
Protect your skin from sun exposure
You will find that with many aesthetic skin treatments, protecting the area from direct sunlight for the first week following treatment is common. The heat and light from the sun can slow down the healing process and may extend the duration of your recovery.
If you need to go out in the sun, we recommend using ample sun protection of SPF30 or higher and protective clothing such as a hat or other skin covering. If you are having HIFU treatment during the summer months or before a summer holiday, ensure that you have a week to keep sun exposure to a minimum to give your skin the best chance to heal.
Avoid hot environments, heat treatments and excessive sweating
As well as avoiding sun exposure, we strongly recommend avoiding other hot environments such as steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, and excessively hot showers for the first 48 hours following treatment. Hot environments can have a negative impact on your side effects and slow down your recovery time.
You should also avoid activities that can cause excessive sweating and a high heart rate. This includes activities such as exercise, sports, or any movement that is likely to raise your heart rate & blood pressure, causing sweating. This should be avoided for the first 48 hours following HIFU Skin Tightening so please ensure that you have an opportunity to refrain from exercise for the days following your treatment.
Book follow-up treatments and follow your practitioners’ advice
Booking follow-up appointments in advance will help you to stay on track with your treatment results and allow your practitioner to check in at the right times. Without booking follow-ups, you may risk your practitioner being fully booked and unable to see you for several weeks.
At your follow-up appointments, your practitioner can monitor your progress, address concerns, or answer any questions.
Be patient with your results
It is important to understand that results from HIFU skin tightening can take several weeks to fully appear. Don’t be discouraged if your results are slow to show, be patient and allow your skin time to recover and rejuvenate.
It’s important to note that individual results may vary, and by following the aftercare advice above, you’ll be able to give yourself the best chance of enhancing and maximising your results.
