What is Microneedling?

Micro-needling is also known as collagen induction therapy. It is typically used to treat scarring, acne scarring, skin ageing and pigmentation. Micro-needling causes controlled micro injuries to your skin that stimulates the body’s natural wound healing process, and the release of growth factors while minimising cellular damage. The result is effective remodelling of collagen and elastin, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

What are the phases of wound healing process?

  1. Phase I: Inflammation. Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.

  2. Phase II: Proliferation. The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

  3. Phase III: Remodelling. The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

Is there downtime after the treatment?

Everyone’s experience is different and the healing time will vary.  Most people report slight swelling and pinkness (similar to sunburn) for 24 – 48 hours after the treatment.  This is completely normal.
