Aftercare Guide for RF Microneedling

Following a successful RF Microneedling treatment, we’re often asked what can be done to ensure that results are protected and maximised once patients leave the clinic. This is where accurate and reliable aftercare is essential to achieving your desired results without any issues. Being aware of the do’s and don’ts following your treatment will help you to give yourself the best chance at fulfilling your desired results while also avoiding any complications.

As you may know, Microneedling with Radiofrequency (RF) is an excellent treatment for restoring youthfulness and a radiant glow to the skin. You can find more information on this in our Ultimate Guide to RF Microneedling.

Our comprehensive aftercare guide for Microneedling will provide everything you need to know to maximise the effectiveness and prevent any issues that may impact your results. If you have any concerns or want to speak to a skin specialist directly, contact our friendly team in Essex.

Immediately following your RF Microneedling

Firstly, it’s important to expect some minor side effects following your treatment in the form of redness and a sensitive touch to the skin, similar to the sensation of a sunburn. This is completely normal and nothing to be concerned about, as it will usually subside within 24 hours following your treatment. Side effects of Focus Dual treatments are generally mild.

We recommend that you resist the urge to touch or pick at the treated area until your treatment has healed, as this may put you at risk of infection. Directly following your treatment it is typical for your practitioner to apply a soothing serum to the skin. This is to alleviate any discomfort and enhance the healing process.

Gently cleanse the treated skin after treatment

Although we advise against touching or picking at the treated skin, after your treatment it is still necessary to clean the area gently. We recommend a gentle cleanse with a mild, non-fragranced soap or cleanser. Avoid harsh or chemical-heavy exfoliants, and be sure to clean the treated area very gently for the first week following treatment.

When drying the treated area, softly pat the area dry with a clean towel, rather than rubbing, to avoid irritating any potential side effects.

Moisturise the treated area liberally every day

Applying moisturiser is recommended to all our patients, regardless of treatment. It can do wonders for your results to keep skin hydrated, healthy and younger-looking. Following an RF Microneedling treatment, we recommend keeping the treated area hydrated and moisturised with a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic moisturiser. This is to avoid dryness that can irritate side effects, making them last longer than they normally would.

We recommend applying moisturiser to the treated area twice daily, especially after cleaning the treated area. This could be after your morning shower and again in the evening when you have a spare minute.

Protect your skin from sun exposure

With many aesthetic skin treatments, keeping the area protected from direct sunlight for the first week following treatment is common. The heat and light from the sun can prevent the healing process from working effectively and may extend the duration of your recovery.

If you need to go out in the sun, we recommend using ample sun protection of SPF30 or higher as well as protective clothing such as a hat or other skin covering. If you are having RF Microneedling during the summer months or before a summer holiday, ensure that you have a week to keep sun exposure to a minimum to give your skin the best chance to heal.

Avoid hot environments and excessive sweating

As well as avoiding sun exposure, we strongly recommend avoiding other hot environments such as steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, and excessively hot showers for the first 48 hours following treatment. Hot environments can have a negative impact on your side effects and slow down your recovery time.

You should also avoid activities that can cause excessive sweating and a high heart rate. This includes activities such as exercise, sports, or any movement that is likely to raise your heart rate & blood pressure, causing sweating. This should be avoided for the first 48 hours following RF Microneedling so please ensure that you have an opportunity to refrain from exercise for the days following your treatment.

Have a healthy diet and stay hydrated

Our skin looks its best and most youthful when our bodies are full of nutrients, minerals and hydration. Eating a healthy balanced diet and keeping hydrated with water can be one of the best ways to ensure that the results you desire are achieved.

Not only will this enhance your results, it can also speed up the recovery process, so keeping a healthy diet and drinking lots of water can be a win-win following treatment.

Book follow-up RF Microneedling appointments and listen to your practitioners’ advice

Booking follow-up appointments in advance will help you to stay on track with your treatment results and allow your practitioner to check in at the right times. Without booking follow-ups, you may risk your practitioner being fully booked and unable to see you for several weeks.

At your follow-up appointments, your practitioner can monitor your progress, address concerns, or answer any questions.
